Works on canvas and more.
For time immemorial an intense desire drove humans to depict, preserve, and to interpret reality. This yearning, married with artistic talent, brought to life monumental parietal cave art – such as in the Chauvet cave, or in Lascaux and Altamira. Mighty herds of horses, mammoths, rhinos, deer, bands of lions and other predators, depicted in a lively manner, nowadays still inspire awe for the genious of their creators.
And so in all the following ages, and in most distant corners of the world, artists instilled beauty of nature in wood, bone, on canvas, steel plates, paper, silk and so on.
Painterly works presented by Hunt and Ornaments, made with the use of acrylics, watercolors, on paper and on canvas, focus on the nature – its formosity and frailty, but also on the reality of strife for survival. Our artists, respective of noble painterly techniques, create artful, elaborative works portraying various forms of wildlife, and its relation with human beings. Our authors manage to capture the aura of limitless nature, bounded exclusively by a misty horizon. Such ambiance can be brought to our homes thanks to the artworks, serving as windows opened to the panorama of roaring elements, fundamental instincts, raptures, and truths of life, death and beauty.
Naturalistic paintings – nature in your home.
The artists cooperating with Hunt and Ornaments create precise representations of the beauty that surrounds us. Naturalistic paintings can bring the silence of endless woods even inside a city loft.
The presence of paintings make the interiors of our houses feel cosier. For those who go for more of a modern design, we hold a wide selection of acrylic works, which will satisfy the most demanding art lovers.
Hand made decorative figurines.
Our aesthetic sensitivity is shaped by objects that fill our surroundings. It is not so common to find sculptures among those objects, although it is sculptures that bear the most tangible, sensual qualities. Made of ceramic, wood, bronze or even stone, sculptures pulsate with innate energy and temperature; they emanate fragility and rawness, and encourage us to cultivate memories, and to immerse ourselves in contemplation.
Hand crafted, spacious works refer to forms of nature; they hark back to the prominent tradition of Polish design by means of simple formulas and noble techniques.
Small forms – sculptures for your home.
Representing animals, inhabitants of forests, fields and wetlands, and the weathered ones that fill the sky – can be purchased at the Hunt and Ornaments gallery. Each sculpture, even the functional ones created for the purpose of multiple use, has been processed by hand, thus two identical works cannot be found in our gallery – every single one is unique.
with hand-painted faces.
Among various types of objects in our offer, there is something for watch connoiseurs as well. Once the timepiece mechanism has been downsized so much so it can be contained in small, flat case, at first destined for the pocket and soon after to be worn on the forearm, watches had become extensively used on a daily basis, as well as on special occasions. Meticulously crafted out of prescious materials, they quickly became a sort of desirable jewellery, and an indication of social status of the user, but also of their sense of style, interests and propriety.
At Hunt and Ornaments you will find a wide assortment of timepieces. Precision is a domain not only of the mechanisms – our artists decorate the dials with exquisite microscale paintings. You can select a complete piece from our shop, or place a special order for painterly decoration on your own dial, sent to us.
Our artists will gladly upgrade your watch with any motif close to your heart. Don’t hesitate to let us know about the sort of a watch, and the way in which you wish for it to be decorated.
PRINTS AND DRAWINGS
Drawing and graphics are one of the most ancient, and still evolving art techniques meant to represent the human perspective on the world, and help preserve memorable eperiences in a certain way. Drawings made in sand with a stick, or made by hand on a rock, lines carved in stone and on bone – are the primal expressions of people’s artistic thrills, interests and needs. Designs carved in wooden blocks, metal and stone plates, etched with acid, tell of an intense human urge to manifest involvement in creative work.
Hunts and Ornaments offers numerous, unique designs. Made with the use of various techniques, and in relation to many themes, our collection provides all of our customers with an array of options. Our artists create works diversified in character – from calm, ambient landscapes and genre scenes, to grotesque interpretations of human behaviour. The dominating theme is people’s relation with nature, and the nature itself in its various reveals. In our gallery you will find recollections of colours changing with the seasons, human and animal fortunes, happiness and sorrow, recorded in the language of art – black and white images ‘written down’ with the use of pencil, quill pen, ink and paint.
ARTS AND CRAFTS
A perfect idea for a gift.
Why can’t art be usable in the literal sense of the word? History convinces us that art can function not only on wall or pedestals, but can also manifest inself as carved chests, decorated cabinets, and all sorts of big and small objects of daily use – functional but rife with artistry. The unique character of those objects helps them last through generations; with time they gain value and status as treasures that simply cannot be replaced thoughtlessly by any mass-produced gadget.
Ceramic tableware, incrusted boxes and cases meant for storage of prescious heirlooms, wax candles shaped in accordance to a certain occasion, and even cutting boards, chiseled lamps, pegs, clocks, jewellery, hand-shaped and hand-painted plates – they all evince the good taste of their owners.
Some of them fragile and delicate, others surprisingly sturdy; some plain and modest, others heavily decorated – all of them are meant to bring joy with their aesthetics and utility, enrich our homes, and make them nests of valuable items, not only in terms of material worth, but above everything else, singularity.
Not only ornate cutlass and bowie knives.
Certain items retain their shape and function throughout the ages. There is nothing superfluous about them. In time, only adornments and materials change. The essential tool of mankind, a knife, is one of those items. Take a look at cutlass knives in our assortment – weapon that has been in use since the late Middle Ages, primarily during hunts; nowadays rather a decorative object.
Knives that we offer – survival knives, tourist knives or hunting knives – may come in handy during fishing or nautical jaunts, while camping, trekking, field working or cooking, in the open air, as well as in the kitchen.
It is not common knowledge that icon painters, for the purpose of creating holy images, often enough use cutting boards.
Why? Because it is a very durable base – a product of elaborative, yet rough woodwork that will last for generations. With this in mind, we commisioned a series of works painted on cutting boards, decorated with motifs borrowed from Japanese prints, oeuvres of European masters, or simply with nature-themed imagery.
Colonel Wolodyjowski clapped and commanded the apprentice to bring over the brew, sat down by Kmicic, filled the horns and began to speak…
Drinking-horn, most probably originating from the Greek rhyton, also known as keras, is one of the most intriguing chalices; the lack of stem, and therefore the impossibility to put it away when filled with liquor, provokes drinking games. For the sake of the more sensitive folks, it is worth mentioning that among drinking-horns in our offer, there are ones with lids preventing the contents from spilling out.
made of natural raw materials.
Ever since people became aware of the passing of time, they went about cogitating on, and constructing devices meant for time measurments, such as the gnomon, the marine chronometer, the hourglass, or particularly marked candles. And once mass production of mechanical timepieces gained momentum, it became evident that precise time measurment is not only useful, but necessary. It truly feels impossible to imagine contemporary times without atomic clocks.
In order to meet your mundane, as well as nonmaterial needs, we offer you extraordinary timepieces, both in terms of shape and materials used in the process of making.
Those who prefer classic clock cases might fall for sculptural decoration, subtly interfering with the structure of wood and stone. Lovers of contemporary simplicity will find something for themselves too. Clocks made of natural raw materials such as pieces of century-old wooden logs, fragments of washed up timber, shaped by salty water and sand, or sea glass will perform not only as useful domestic devices, but above all will adorn any interior in which they will be placed.
Let us measure time with the use of heart-lifting, beautiful, elaborative clocks made by contemporary artists.
as tokens of love.
In the XXth century the art of ikon writing has gained a new meaning. To register the world, people rely primarily on vision. Nowadays our eyes are being constantly attacked by aggressive advertising, television and visual propaganda, providing us with an aggravating amount of stimuli.
Within the chaos of visual sensations, ikons remain meaningful. They depict another reality, determined by definite, stabile principles. An ikon will make for an outstanding gift – a reminder of love, consistency of things, and of lasting guardianship. In the language of symbols, ikons visualise Heaven and Earth. They function at the border of these two worlds, and serve as a link between them. Finally, they predict life after death.
On our offer we have hand-made paintings, decorative figurines, sculptures for home interiors, ikons written by commision, wall clocks, hand-painted dials, ceramic sets, one-off wooden furniture, lamps made of ropes and beams, prints, satyrical drawings, and numerous other objects infused with soul. We are a huge enterprise of painters, ceramicists, watchmakers, metalworkers, mouldmakers, sculptors, printmakers working with hand presses, illustrators, photographers, collectors, even writers, and ikon writers – people commited to daily artistic practice in their studios, among their unique works, surrounded by halo of mystery and magic.
Our wish is to help fill your homes with quaint, meditative horizon lines; to meet your need for leisure, and for balancing the needs of body and spirit, neglected in the haste of everyday life. Our artists are capable of capturing the intengible – elusive beauty and profound nearness with nature. Choose the work that speaks to you – surround yourself with flora and fauna, feel the inner peace – or bless someone with it.
